Mission

The Appalachian Progressive Education (APE) Center's mission is to provide high-quality progressive educational programs, in-school as well as after-school, for pre-K – 6 students, and homeschoolers, in Southeast Ohio.

The APE Center brings Arts (theater, visual art, music, dance) and Character Education (along with Responsive Classroom philosophy) together by merging multiple core curriculum subjects to fulfill academic standards.

The APE Center provides innovative hands-on classroom activities and dynamic learning opportunities to help students better grasp concepts and retain critical knowledge, and to successfully pass standardized tests.

The APE Center believes that experiential learning, using multiple teaching styles, achieves long-lasting academic, social and personal development objectives.

The APE Center’s comprehensive approach to learning integrates continuing professional development for teachers and school counselors, as well as professional development opportunities for local and in-school artists.

Goals

To provide teachers as well as after-school tutors with a variety of sustainable, unique and creative teaching tools and skills

To enhance students' learning skills through the use of Art hands-on mediums

To encourage academic, social and personal development of students, teachers and parents

To effectively involve hard-to-reach students, special needs children, and gifted children into the learning process

To improve students' social skills, especially interaction with their peers, to prevent and resolve conflicts

To develop an inspirational learning environment for students so that they enjoy studying

To promote creativity, self-exploration and team work

To support a school that embraces differences and community

To incorporate basic non-native language awareness into the class curriculum

To increase cooperation between students, teachers, parents and their community

Our plan is to offer all the programs and workshops to schools and other interested groups for free, or for a minimum fee.

We are now asking for different grants as well as contacting local sponsors and donors.
